Who am I?

I have been asking myself that question a lot this week. For good reason. Because sometimes, I get so wrapped up in who people want me to be, I forget who I am. 

I am:

  • A daughter of the awesome, almighty, holy, righteous and perfect God who sent His Son to die a horrible death on a cross because of His incredible love for me. Sometimes I can't wrap my mind around that.
  • A daughter of two wonderful parents who I am blessed by on a daily basis.
  • The sister of two incredible younger brothers who so often remind me that I am worthy of love and who are constantly watching out for and protecting me.
  • A friend to the amazing friends that I have. I am so thankful for each and every one of my friends that pours into me, that allows me to pour into them, and that have stuck by my side, even when things are rough.
  • An encourager to those who need support (or I try to be)
  • A future special education teacher who is so in love with children who have special needs that it is probably unhealthy.
  • An "unofficial official babysitter" to a beautiful little boy who constantly fills my life with joy.
  • A Tibster- and proud of it.

This week I really felt like a failure. I felt like I had let Kara down, like I had let people at home down, that I had let people here down, and most of all like I had let myself down. It was really easy for me to sit back and think about all the negative things I am. But the fact of the matter is that God loves me and he made me the way I am. He allows me to struggle with the things I do because He knows it brings me to my knees at His throne. He allows me to break into pieces so that He can be the one to put me back together. Sometimes, I feel like I am a broken chair. Chairs are meant to be a support- they are meant to hold you up so you don't fall on the ground. I felt like a broken chair this week. I was trying to support people, but the pieces holding me together were falling apart. And when I fell apart, it wasn't pretty. I was rusted, my screws were falling out, and I felt lost.

Then God came, the true Master Craftsman, and He saw me in my broken and useless state and He picked me up and comforted me, polished me, and made me whole again. It wasn't easy; some of the things He had to do to put those screws back in were painful. But here I am. Whole in Christ, back to doing what I love to do, and right now, I am overjoyed. I am content. I am happy.

Someone, pointedly, said this week, "God is still working in people, even if they can't see it." While it wasn't said directly to me, I could tell it was meant for me to hear. I couldn't even, at that time, raise my eyes to look at the speaker because I was so full of shame and fear and hurt. Turns out it's true. God is still working and He uses our brokenness to speak directly into other people's lives. He puts our pieces back together and He does what He wants with our lives. 

So who am I?

I am a daughter of Christ who has been saved, loved, cared for, broken, put back together, polished, and molded into exactly who He wants me to be. And if I am being who He wants me to be, I am who I want to be.

Quick Updates

Peeps- Life has been beyond ridiculous the past few weeks. I apologize for my blogging absence and to those of you who actually usually see me around, I apologize for not being around. My days have been filled with classes, baby Chase, teacher aiding, homework, devos, and if there is time left over, sleep. Currently I average about 3 hours night. 4 hours on a good night. And nursing majors think they are the only ones who are busy. HA! We education people are just as busy, we just have more fun. (No offense to you nursing majors out there. Earlier this week I heard a girl say that nursing majors were the only ones who ever had anything to do. It ticked me off a little more then it should have). 

So for now, I'll give you the quick rundown of things going on in the life of Emily.




  • Classes are insane. My workload is crazy. That comes with taking 19 credits, but still, I have no idea how I function. November is going to be a crazy month for me, and if you ever feel like shooting me an encouraging text, or giving me a hug, I will not deny it. Just thinking about all the work I have to do this month makes me want to cry. 
  • Baby Chase- pretty much amazing as always. Chase has definitely become someone I depend on. Funny isn't it? He is only a year old and already has people depending on him. I get a lot of energy and joy from spending time with him, and so often the times I do spend with him are times that help "fuel my fire" so to speak, for the rest of the day. Last week he had the chicken pox and I was unable to be around him. It didn't go well.
  • Roseland- talk to me about it in person if you want to know.
  • Roommates- I can honestly tell you that for the most part I absolutely love my roommates. Megan and Melissa especially. We get along really really well and I do love spending time with them. Things overheard in Tib 39 this week:
    • "My eye is watering like freaking lava!" - Melissa

    • (Browsing christian mingle) "dónde está mi esposo?" (aka, where is my husband?) - Melissa
    • "Lord just take me now." - me (studying for midterms)

    • "OH MY GOSH, this is horrible! Oh no!!!" - Me "calm down, Emily, have you not seen this movie before?!"- Melissa "No I have!" - Me
    • "What is my life?!" - me
    • "I just want to poke his little beady eyes out!" - Brittany
    • "If they kiss I'm going to punch a bat." - Melissa 
  • God- the only One who gets me through my roughest days. I'm seeing him do amazing things in my life though, which is incredible.
  • Teacher aiding- constantly shows me on a daily basis I am meant to be a special education teacher. I'm going to cry when I have to leave this placement. Hard.

For the Weary

It seems that the pretty common theme running around campus right now is weariness. Everyone is tired and becoming overwhelmed by the homework and is stressed out by everything they have to do. My prayer is that right now as we struggle together that we pray to the Lord for our strength and trust Him above all else.  

Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

The Need for Brokenness.

A few years ago I was sitting in church, right beside one of my very dear friends. During prayer I wrapped my arms around a very broken-hearted girl and comforted her as she cried on my shoulder because one of her friends left for college without saying goodbye to her. During the next song I stood beside her, helping to hold her up as the tears continued to stream down her face. Today I cried in church because that same girl I comforted left without saying goodbye to me. 

That pain and hurt caused me to fall on my knees before my God when I got home from church. I prayed that God would show me His plan and that He would use this to bring me closer to Him. It's funny- the second part of my prayer was already answered before I prayed it.

You see, God used that situation to bring me to my knees before Him and into His presence. By doing so- I was already being brought closer to Him. 

I think this is a large part of the reason why God allows there to be so much pain and brokenness in this world. He uses the pain, the hurt, the brokenness, to bring people to Him. And then once they come and truly seek Him in the midst of the hurt He reveals a gentle, loving, and caring side of Himself that comforts and starts to bring about a healing that can only come from Him. That doesn't mean it will be easy; it doesn't mean that once you give it to Christ it will all go away. But it does mean that God will carry you through and give you strength when you thought you didn't have any left.

Just something to think about. I often wonder when I see or talk with people why there is so much brokenness in this world. Why God lets certain things happen. But there is no doubt in my mind that some painful circumstances are meant to lead us closer to our Lord and Savior. 

And I'm thankful that I have a loving God to turn to to carry me forward when my heart is hurting. It makes me want to go out and tell people about Him and how awesome He is. And maybe I'll do just that.

Some Wounds Run to Deep

****For those of you who don't know, Lauryn was a girl my family took in when I was 12. She lived with us for two years before moving out. It ended very ugly. 


Last week when I went to get my blood drawn, I walked into the office only to find out that Lauryn was in the next room. I heard her voice first and in an instant I was taken back to the nights spent laughing in her bedroom in the basement, nights spent flipping off beds in hotel rooms, days spent shopping, nights closing the store...For years I have wondered what it would be like to see Lauryn again. I've wondered if she would recognize me now. I've wondered if I would recognize her. Turns out it wasn't hard to do- her red hair, raspy voice, her laugh, her 30 tattoos. And she recognized me in an instant too. I could see that there were similar emotions running through her head as she looked me up and down. She later sent me a message on facebook asking me how I was doing and she told me she was proud of me.

My family and I don't talk about Lauryn. It was a painful experience for us all when she left- and bringing her up in conversation never really happens, because bringing her up is rarely worth the stab of pain we will all inevitably feel. 

Seeing her? A foot away from me?

It was harder then I could have imagined. Part of me wanted to run to her and hug her and tell her I love her. The other part of me wanted to scream at her and tell her how awful it was when she moved out. How packing up her things the morning after broke my heart and left Max and I huddled in a corner together sobbing. How we trusted her. She was our sister- or she might as well have been. She was here; a part of our family every single day for so long- when she left it was hard to remember how we functioned as five instead of six. Another part of me wanted to cry. Cry for my 'sister'. Because the dead look in her eyes and the scars on her hands showed me that she had fallen back into the habits my family had tried to hard to pull her out of by pointing her to the Savior who loved her exactly the way she was and by showing her she was loved by Him, and by us. 

And seeing her left me feeling broken. Because I could tell she was. 

I'm still having nightmares. 

Then this past weekend, I went to see Les Mis at Merrillville High School. I used to do theatre productions there for years and years. My old best friend, Ella, had one of the lead roles. Ella and I were best friends for years. She even lived with us during the summers because it was easier for theatre rehearsals. She only went home for 1 day a week.  In the last year, things went terribly wrong. So wrong that there are things that happened between us that no one knows about. I've shared with my dearest friends some of the things that happened between us. But not all of them. And I had braced myself- I knew seeing her was going to be hard. It's never easy. I wasn't prepared enough though. Seeing Ella killed me. It was harder then I thought it was going to be. I cried when she first came on stage- for reasons I can't explain. I cried when she sang her solo because we worked so hard on that song together a few years ago. I cried as I fell asleep that night because I remember how much fun we had together before I wasn't good enough anymore. 

And I'm crying now. Because I've realized in the past two weeks that some wounds are never truly going to heal. I will probably never be able to see or talk about Lauryn without there being pain there. I will probably never be able to see Ella without my heart aching for the friendship we once had. Both of these girls are girls I considered to be my sisters. Both of these girls are girls I miss terribly. Both of these girls are girls I pray for regularly.

I've given these wounds to God. And He has certainly brought healing in both areas. I don't blame myself for Lauryn's drug addictions anymore. I don't blame myself for her leaving us the way she did anymore. I don't hate myself now every time I see Ella and I can even sing again.  
But I wonder, if it true when they say that some wounds just run too deep for there to be complete healing. Because all these years later, I still feel like I'm being stabbed with a knife when I see, think, or hear about them. Or maybe that pain is there because I still love them, despite how hurt I was by them.  Or maybe that pain is a reminder that people in this world will fail us, but God is always good and He will never fail.

And I know, because I've seen, God will bring beauty from the ashes and from the pain. And I know that He has used both of these painful circumstances to draw me closer to Him. And I trust Him. Completely. 

But that doesn't make it easy.

In this life, God may bring us to situations, or relationships, in which we are never guaranteed a soft landing. He may ask us to go through something hard. But I am trusting in the fact that I know He has a great plan and He knows everything about my future. And I know He will continue to meet me in the midst of my pain and that He will continue to use it to reveal Himself to me in it. And that knowledge has kept me going these past few days. I know He has not abandoned me. 

And He never will.

Thankful

Just a few things I've found myself thankful for today:
  • I am thankful for Max, who never ceases to make me laugh, pick on me when I need to feel loved, and who is too intuitive for his own good. Max and I have spent a lot of time together this past week because in those days when I was so sick he spent a lot of time upstairs with me- taking care of me or being there if I needed something..and of course watching Harry Potter. I am so beyond blessed to have Max as a brother and I am so thankful for the relationship and friendship we have. 
  • I am thankful for my dog, who is always excited to see me, who loves me unconditionally  and who keeps me warm at night when I'm freezing my butt off. 
  • I'm thankful for family getaways and relaxing times together. This weekend we went to Indy for my cousin's wedding and spent a night in a hotel- something we haven't done in years. It was a blast.
  • I'm thankful for my dear friends from Trinity- specifically today Kaity and Alyssa who are constant reminders that I am not alone and that I am loved.
  • I'm thankful for the hammock that I can go out and lay in and read my Bible.
  • I'm thankful that Emily comes home in a few days. I might just cry when I see her.
  • I'm thankful for Millie and the lightness and joy she brings to my life.
  • I'm thankful that I'm house/kid sitting for the Frigo's today and tomorrow, so I'm getting to spend hours and hours with Jacob. 
  • Really...I'm just..thankful.
God has so greatly blessed me. Sometimes when I'm sad, sick, tired, or just down, I go back in my journal and read over my list of blessings and things I'm thankful for. In a way- it makes everything better. There are so many little blessings and things we just don't take the time to notice or realize that they really are indeed blessings and gifts from God:
  • the smell of fresh cut grass
  • the birds chirping as the sun rises
  • the hugs that we get from our family members
  • the laughter that is shared between friends
They all gifts from God- blessings from our Lord and Savior. 

Next Sunday, a week from today, I am going to write a post called "100 blessings from God." This is something I would really challenge you to do as well.  Take 5 minutes at the end of each day this week and just write down as many things as you can that you saw as blessings from God that day- they can be as big or as small as you like. I've done this a few times in the past and it is really powerful. We are so blessed and we sometimes don't even take the time to see it. I am so thankful for the little blessings God gives us. And the one I am noticing right now? The smell of fresh coffee in the coffee pot.

Seeing the "Invisible"


I challenge you to look at this post as a window into what has been on my heart this week. I challenge you further to do what I did this week- see the "invisible". 

How many of you have felt invisible before? Alone? Scared and afraid? How many of you have had to go through something so emotionally draining that you felt like you were being engulfed in a massive rain storm? How many of you have felt that what God has asked you to go through is just too much to bear- even though He has proven Himself again and again? How many of you have found yourself asking God, "Are you there? Are you paying attention?

Sometimes in this life we go through momentary trials that leave us feeling as if no one in the world cares. That no one can help. That no one can see how much you are hurting. That no one can see you. 

Sometimes in the life we do things over and over again because we just want our efforts to be recognized. We are human; we all have a desire within us to be recognized, affirmed, cared for and appreciated. How many of us have felt that we go unrecognized? 


  • Think about all the single moms who are doing their best to raise their kids while working full time and then spending their free time cooking, cleaning, and caring for their children and feel unappreciated.
  • Think about the nurses who work insane hours to make a living who feel like their patients don't understand, or care about how much they have to do. 
  • Think about the children who wander the streets feeling like no one cares about what they say or do or where they go.
  • Think about the teenagers and young adults who have no idea who they are or how they fit into this big world.
  • Think about the people who struggle with addictions and feel like they have to hide them because of the shame they are filled with.
  • Think about the homeless people that are constantly passed up by people on the streets.
  • Think about all the leaders in our community who feel like they can't show their emotions at any cost.
  • Think about the mom in walmart who looks like she hasn't slept for days and whose baby is screaming at the top of his lungs
  • Think about the teachers who go above and beyond to give their students a good education but are constantly being knocked down by the education systems.
These are people who desperately need to know they are seen; not just seen, but dearly loved, cared for, and appreciated. And not just dearly loved, cared for, and appreciated, but valued and celebrated by an amazing and powerful God. 

Any of this sound familiar? Or maybe for you---it's something different. The point is many of us have at some point felt discouraged, beaten down, forgotten, or invisible. For me personally- it was the years in high school that I felt invisible around my brother. It wasn't until I made a friend at church that I finally felt like someone was finally starting to see me.

Often times I wonder why I didn't realize sooner that we have an amazing, powerful, awesome God who sees us.

How incredibly amazing is that? God SEES us. He sees our pain. He sees our frustration. He sees the things we desperately try to hide.

  • He sees the single parents who are working themselves into the ground
  • He sees the homeless people on the streets
  • He sees the orphans in China who are wondering if they are loved
  • He sees the nurses, teachers, and others who work hard to better the lives of others
  • He sees the teens who are struggling to pass their classes because they are too hungry to focus.
  • He sees the employees who feel used and abused
  • He sees us ALL.
He sees. He cares. And He loves us. As Christians, we should be sharing that love with others.

This week I challenge you to see the invisible. See the moms in walmart with the crying babies. See the kid who goes home to a difficult home life. See the homeless on the streets. See them with God's eyes and do something.

That's what I did this past week. And it literally brought me to tears on many occasions.

  • hugging the girl with Autism who finally let me into her world for a moment.
  • buying formula for the mom who was a dollar short.
  • stopping and talking with the older lady sitting on the bench at the park.
  • Acknowledging the hard work a lady at church puts into the children's programs.
  • and more.
I have felt invisible before. I have felt how amazing it feels to be noticed by someone and the even more amazing feeling when I realized GOD sees me. So see, really see, the "invisible" this week.

Adoption

Disclaimer: I'm going to warn you ahead of time- this is going to be a strange post. 

For those of you who know me at all- you know that I love children.

For those of you who know me well- you know that I have a passion for children with special needs.

For those of you who know me very well- you know that since I was little I have wanted to adopt three little girls from China.

........and for those of you who don't know me at all- you are a creep and you shouldn't be reading this blog.

But whether you don't know me at all, know me, know me well, or know me very well- you are all now all aware of the three things listed above.

You could say that my passion for both children with special needs and adoption is God-given. I do not remember much about my childhood; I don't remember things that I said or things that were said to me unless they were life altering (She's moving in with us and she'll be here tomorrow), a major life lesson (Don't mix up baking powder with baking soda or an explosion could occur), funny (One-lane, one-lane!), or something I just took to heart (You are not your brother). But something I do clearly remember is constantly telling people I was going to be a special-ed teacher and I was going to adopt three little girls from China.

For now, I'm gonna talk a little bit about adoption.

Like I said, my passion for adoption is God-given. I have wanted to adopt from China literally since I can remember. I have a Chinese doll sitting in my room- get all sorts of newsletters from adoption agencies- follow blogs that talk about adoption- and have an adoption fund started.

A few years back I went through a period of time where I was very sick. I went through a lot before my doctor thought they had a diagnosis for what was wrong. Still to this day I don't know for absolute sure because that requires surgery, but assuming I have what they are thinking I have there is about a 3% chance I can have children of my own.

(See what I mean when I say my passion for adoption was God given?)

Obviously I don't know for sure, but I know that whatever happens will be in God's hands. But I really am thankful that he has placed the desire to adopt in my heart because I feel like as this becomes more of a real issue later in life it is going to help heal much heartache.

Anyways.

The last few months I have felt even more than usual this pull towards adoption. I don't know why- I'm not married and have no possible prospects in mind- but my yearning to adopt has only grown stronger in the past few months.

I am in no way ready to have children of my own; I am not ready to be a parent and I am not ready for the responsibility that comes along with a child. Honestly- I don't think I'll be ready for another 10+ years (which is probably good, since you have to be older then 30 to adopt from China). But, I'm also realizing that God is already, at 20, preparing me to bring home those little girls. This week I had the strangest conversation with a friend about this, in which I said something like "I didn't know it was possible to love a child that I don't even know yet." I think that holds a lot more truth than I even realized when I said it.

God is preparing my heart and my mind for a child He has in mind for me. He has already matched me to the child I will one day call my own; He is already preparing me to love that child in ways I can't even imagine right now. He is already having me fall in love with a child that I haven't even met yet and that more then likely isn't even born yet. I didn't know that was possible until these past few months. 

I know this sounds strange- I know I sound crazy- after all I'm only 20. But God is stirring in my heart- and that is exciting and completely scary all at the same time.

Blessings

Okay, I know I promised this post yesterday, but I ended up not being home practically all day, so it's coming now.

In my last post I mentioned some things that I have been struggling with these past few weeks:

1) Lots of emotional stuff to work through
2) Housing issues
3) Finding a summer job (which may not have been mentioned, but I'm mentioning it now because it was on my mind a lot last week)
4) Unending amounts of homework to do

There was so much going on and my heart and soul did feel like they were being crushed. By the time I got home for spring break every part of me was worn out. 

I realized though that for the past few weeks I have been focusing a lot on myself and how much I have been going through and how much I was hurting and how betrayed I felt. (See the pattern of I?) I also realized I had spent a lot of time being frustrated with God for allowing everything that happened to happen in such a short period of time. 

I heard this song on the radio on my way home from school on Friday, and I happened to hear this part of the song:

So I pray:

bring the chance to be free

And I know there'll be days

And I realized just how much I had shut God out of everything that had been going on. And with tears streaming down my face I began to pray that God would soften my heart, draw me closer to him, and prayed that above all else His will would be done in my life in the upcoming months. I prayed later that He would give me the strength and courage to trust Him with my life because I have no control on what happens. I prayed He would help me be content with the unknown. And for the first time, I turned everything over to Him.







That was Friday.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were sweet days for God and I. It really amazes me sometimes how much our relationship with God is like all the other relationships in our lives- you have to pour into it in order for it to grow. And I'm not saying in three days everything was fixed by any means because it was/is far from that- but I am saying that in those three days I began to slowly feel God's peace in me- a peace I know can only come from Him. I continued to pray that he would work things out and show me what He wanted from me.

And by Monday, I started to see how much He was working, and how he had just been waiting on me to rely fully on Him and give everything over to him. 

Blessing/Answer to prayer #1- Monday afternoon I got a call from a lady named Tina who had heard about me from a friend who knows someone at Bethel church. (The back story to this is that my grandma had sent an email to the lady who runs the church email service asking her to put out an ad, along with the 60+ other adds, saying that I was looking for a summer job that involved working with children with disabilities. These emails get sent out to thousands of people in Indiana). The ad went out on Monday. Within three hours this lady called me, explaining that she was in need of a full time nanny for her daughter during the summer. Jenna has autism and is nonverbal. We set up an interview, which happened tonight. I got the job. I also got to meet the girl I will be working with. She is older- she is 16. Like I said a minute ago she is non-verbal; she can only speak about fifteen words. But she is fluent in sign language- something I did not know going in. The look on her mom (Tina's) face when I began signing back to Jenna was priceless and Jenna was excited as well. I am going to be working long days- from 6am-4pm, Monday- Friday. It will be tiring, but I am super excited to be able to have this opportunity. And God really opened all the right doors and showed me this is what he wants me to do:

That was just the beginning.

So I found a summer job. I would have been overjoyed with just that. 

Blessing/Answer to prayer #2- Then on Wednesday we found out that my grandpa's radiation treatments worked!! There is no new cancer in his body, his tumors are stable, and he does not have to go back to Northwestern for 6 months! Praise Jesus! In case you didn't know, grandpa has stage four lung cancer and the radiation treatments were not expected to work. There were many tears of joy and lots of celebrating that went on. He celebrated by buying himself a new tool chest complete with 20 something tool drawers.

Blessing #3- Also on Wednesday I got to spend the day hanging out with Jacob.


Jacob definitely knows me well. And he brings a joy to my heart that no one else can. I am so thankful for the three years I was able to work with him, and I am also soooo thankful that our relationship did not stop just because I went to college. Jacob still remembers all our little games, the things we do that are "our things" like racing to see who can get their seat belt on the quickest.  I love that whenever I come home for an extended period of time I am able to see him once or twice- and I love that I'll be getting to see more and more of him this summer. 

Blessing/Answer to prayer #4- I found roommates! Well, kind of. I had found a group of four girls to room with, and then at the last minute they picked a different girl. Turns out that the girl they picked  found other people to room with, meaning they still needed a fifth girl (----> me). I'm a little nervous about rooming with them next year because they did pick someone else first- I'm not who they would have chosen, but right now I am just thankful that I have people to room with that as far as I know are not druggies or serial killers. I'm trusting that this is what God wants right now, and so I'm okay with that.

Blessing/Answer to prayer #5- Very, very, very needed family time. I did not get to spend as much time with my family as I would have liked this break. I was gone almost every day during the day from the morning until the late afternoon, so really my family time happened Tuesday night, all day Thursday, and tonight. But the times I have been able to spend with my family have been super super sweet and fun.

We have played lots of Catan and Farkle...



Family game nights are perhaps one of my very favorite parts about being home. I love the laughter, fun, and just sweetness that comes out of the nights we hang out all of us together. 

I also got some much needed- Emily & Max bonding time this week. I've missed him a lot, and this week we have actually hung out a decent amount. We've played lots of mario cart, ran errands together, and yeah. I think Friday was the highlight though, because he was genuinely excited to have me home, which made my heart dance. Then on Wednesday night he and I spent the whole evening together. I picked him up from youth group, and then we came back to the house, did a power clean/dance party, and then watched the Incredibles together- no computers and no phones. It was wonderful. We basically relived our childhood when we used to pretend to be Violet and Dash. 



We also spent the day in Chicago on Thursday, which was a blast. I had more fun that day then I have had in a very very long time. I LOVE my family. So much. 


We're cool. 


I feel like there have been many other blessings this week, but I sadly have to go do homework. That's the major things that have happened in the past few days. It amazes me how blessed I am.

Life in this Jungle

In case you haven't noticed, my blog has gone through a bit of a change....

When I say a bit I just mean that I've spent the last twenty minutes renaming my blog, adding the said collage as the background, and picked out a new color scheme. 

If you know me at all, you know that should not have taken me twenty minutes. I was in prime decision making mode just now. 

Anywhoooo. 

You may have noticed, my blog's name has switched from "A Whole New World" to "Life in this Jungle." Let me tell you why.


 If you haven't been on my hall, then you probably wouldn't know that our floor theme is a jungle.
Happens to be literally right next to my door. I'm in love with that pink hippo, I swear.







My RA, Lette, made all these super cute animals and hot glued them to the walls of the hallway. Also, spread out throughout the hall are "survival tips" - aka Bible verses that are key to living life. 




These are just three of them. I picked out the ones I liked best.

Basically, Lette's talked about thriving, not just surviving, in our daily lives here at Trinity. This semester, that's something I really want to do. I want to thrive in the midst of the craziness, not just survive. I want to love and enjoy it as much as possible. Hence, the new blog background. It's just a reminder to my own self to keep having a good attitude throughout the semester. 

And, Trinity isn't a whole new world anymore...it's home.  So it needed a new name.

And it was a way to incorporate hippos into my blog.  -unashamed smile-
